Sea Surface Temp anomaly maps are highly misleading and used incorrectly all the time. Esp in the Gulf. Take this month so far we have had anomalies from 5 degrees cooler than avg to up to 6 degrees warmer than avg. The Gulf is highly variable on temps a few days of warm weather will have the map showing dark red and a few days of cold have the map showing blue. Make sure when someone screams "The Gulf is on fire" or my favorite "Ocean Heat Content" (LOL, I laugh because that has to do with the
