Found in the museum of The Roman Baths is one of the great treasures of Roman Britain. This is the Gilt bronze head of Sulis Minerva, the goddess of the sacred spring here in Bath. It was unearthed on the 12th of July 1727 during the construction of a new sewer below Stall Street. Originally part of a larger cult statue, it has six layers of gilding using the techniques of both fire gilding and gold leaf application.
